We are a community-led GreenThumb garden that provides a space for Bedford-Stuyvesant residents to grow fruit, vegetables, ornamental plants, and have access to healthy, affordable food. Throughout challenges and a changing community, our garden has persevered for nearly 40 years.
The First Quincy Street Community Garden is more than just a garden, it is also a cultural heritage site. We are a hub for community events and social gatherings where we provide a safe, welcoming space to participate in celebrations and educational activities. The First Quincy Street garden is also dedicated to the local community of Bed-Stuy, specifically honoring the African American community that has long defined this neighborhood of Brooklyn. We hold events throughout the year to engage communities old and new. Most importantly, our garden is home to a memorial that honors the 12 Black firefighters who perished on 9/11.
